The main provisions concerning mergers and acquisitions are set out in Part 3 of the Competition Act 2002, as amended ('the Competition Act'). The most important amendments to Part 3 of the Competition Act are contained in the Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2014. The legislation applicable to mergers can be found here.
In addition, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission ('the CCPC') - and its predecessor, the Competition Authority – have published Guidance documents on the interpretation of certain terms used in Part 3 of the Competition Act and on various aspects of the merger review process.
