CCPC welcomes new Chairperson

Jeremy Godfrey has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. The announcement by the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Leo Varadkar, follows an open competition conducted by the Public Appointments Service.
Speaking about his appointment, Mr Godfrey said:
‘I am delighted to take up the position of Chairperson of the CCPC at such an important time. I look forward to contributing to the impact that the CCPC has on economic efficiency and on consumer welfare, and I am also excited by the contribution that well-functioning markets can make in addressing the big issues facing society. It is a privilege to be leading the Commission as we implement and enforce enhanced powers and new responsibilities, including those due to be assigned to the CCPC by the Competition Amendment Bill and the Consumer Rights Bill.’
Mr Godfrey has over 30 years experience in public service, and in the telecommunications and IT sector. Prior to his appointment, Mr Godfrey was a member of the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) where he also served as Chairperson of ComReg from March 2015 until March 2017. Mr Godfrey was the Government Chief Information Officer in Hong Kong from 2008 to 2011. He has been a partner in PA Consulting Group and has held senior roles in Hong Kong Telecom and the Cable & Wireless Group. Mr Godfrey has also worked for the UK Department of Trade and Industry and as an independent consultant. He holds an MA from Cambridge University, where he studied mathematics.
Mr Godfrey will take up the position of Chairperson from 1 January 2022.
