The Complaints Bureau
April 18, 2024
The problem-solving consumer TV show continues tonight, sponsored by the CCPC. Each week, consumers share their experiences of being unfairly or poorly treated. Financial guru Eoin McGee, along with three consumer experts, help investigate and solve these consumer dilemmas.
In this week’s programme, we meet Jenny who upgraded her family home to an energy efficient boiler expecting a warmer house as well as lower heating bills. Soon after the boiler was installed, the family noticed the house had got colder. The heating system then completely stopped working in November 2023. In tonight’s show, consumer expert Conor Pope steps in to try and sort the matter out to Jenny’s satisfaction.
If you’re hiring a tradesperson, you enter a contract for service. If the tradesperson does not provide the proper service, you should try getting them to fix the issue first. The new Consumer Rights Act 2022 gives you strong rights when it comes to buying services. It makes businesses and tradespeople providing a service more accountable. They must provide proper redress if the service they provided does not meet the agreed standard. Our consumer rights hub has the information you need on problems with services.
Tune in to RTÉ One this evening at 7pm for the penultimate episode to see how Jenny gets on, and two other consumer issues.
The Complaints Bureau closes its files on its maiden series next week, but don’t worry if you’ve missed any of the previous episodes. You can catch up on RTE player.
