BMW recall various 3 Series, 5 Series and X5 models

BMW Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of the following models:
BMW 3 Series Sedan, Touring, Coupe, Convertible and M3.
Model E46/4, E46/3, E46/2 and E46/C with Sports steering wheel.
Production period from January 2002 till August 2006.
BMW 5 Series Sedan, Touring and M5.
Model E39 with Sport steering wheel.
Production period from March 2002 till December 2003.
BMW X5.
Model E53 with Sport steering wheel.
Production period from February 2003 till September 2003.
The recall is being carried out due to a potential problem with the front driver’s airbag. The driver’s airbag could deploy abnormally in a crash which could possibly lead to injury.
There are 9,293 affected vehicles in Ireland.
What to do
BMW Ireland will be writing directly to those owners involved in the recall to arrange to have their vehicles fitted with a new airbag inflator. The letter will advise you to contact your nearest BMW dealer who will arrange to do the refit free of charge. You can also contact BMW Ireland directly on 1890 719 421.
