Toyota recalls Corolla, Yaris and Avensis models

June 11, 2014

Toyota Ireland has issued a voluntary recall of certain Corolla, Yaris and Avensis models. This recall is following on from an inspection which was carried out on certain Corolla, Yaris and Avensis models in April 2013.

On certain models produced between November 2000 and March 2004, the passenger front air bag could deploy abnormally in a crash which could possibly lead to injury or thermal damage on part of the interior compartment which may lead to a fire.

There are approximately 22,000 vehicles affected in Ireland.

Toyota has determined that the serial numbers provided by the supplier were incomplete and did not include all of the potentially involved inflators.

What to do

Toyota Ireland will be writing directly to those owners involved in the previous recall, where the inflator was not replaced, to arrange to have their vehicles fitted with a new inflator.

Vehicles that had the air bag replaced during the initial check are not affected by this recall.

The letter will advise you to contact your nearest Toyota dealer who will arrange to do the refit free of charge. You can also contact Toyota Ireland directly on 01-419 0222.
