Toyota Ireland recalls passenger vehicle type Lexus IS
January 17, 2018
Toyota Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain Lexus IS model of motor vehicles manufactured between January 2010 and December 2010.
An issue has been established and has been described as follows: “The additional subject vehicles are equipped with front passenger air bag inflators which contain a non-desiccated, phase stabilized ammonium nitrate propellant. A safety defect may arise in the inflators due to propellant degradation occurring after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling. This may result in an inflator rupture when the air bag deploys. Activation of a non-desiccated ammonium nitrate inflator with degraded propellant may result in an inflator rupture. An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the air bag and into the vehicle interior at high speed, which may result in injury or death of vehicle occupants.”
This recall is estimated to affect 172 passenger vehicles in Ireland.
What to do:
Toyota Ireland will be contacting effected vehicle owners to arrange necessary repairs and/or replacements of the passenger’s airbag assembly or inflator. If you believe that your vehicle is effected by this recall, you can contact Toyota’s customer care on (01) 419 0200.
