Toyota recalls Passenger vehicle Prius
February 1, 2018
Toyota Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of Model Toyota Prius.
The subject Vehicles are equipped with an airbag system containing pressure sensors which detect impact to vehicle. There is possibility that, due to the manufacturing issue, the IC chips in affected Pressure sensors have insulation layers that could peel over time creating an open circuit in the IC chip. If this were to occur, the airbag warning light will illuminate and the side / curtain shield airbags may not deploy. Non-deployment of the side/curtain shield airbags could increase the risk of injury to the occupants in the event of a crash.
Model Toyota Prius affects 53 vehicles in the Irish market that were manufactured in December 2015 only.
What to do:
Toyota Ireland will be writing directly to those customers involved in this recall to arrange to have the airbag inspected and replaced. The letter will also advise consumers affected by this voluntary recall to contact their nearest Toyota Dealer/Authorised Repairer who will arrange to do the repair free of charge. Toyota Ireland can be contacted on: 01 419 0222.
