Volkswagen recalls certain ‘Polo’ and ‘Up!’ passenger vehicles
September 13, 2018
A voluntary recall is being carried out on certain VW Polo and VW Up! passenger vehicles. The vehicles were produced between the 01 October 2015 and the 29 October 2017.
Volkswagen has identified a safety issue, whereby, it is possible that a poorly welded towing eye has been included in the vehicle’s toolkit. If the towing eye is defective, it is possible that it could break off during towing due to the tensile forces arising. The vehicle being towed will thus lose forward propulsion and, on becoming detached, a towing rope may hit people or objects due to the release of tension.
In the Republic of Ireland, approximately 4021 VW Polo and 200 VW Up! passenger vehicles are affected by this recall campaign. Volkswagen Group Ireland Limited has already commenced contacting affected vehicle owners by letter and will continue to do so over the coming weeks. Vehicle owners will be asked to bring their vehicle to an authorised repairer where the towing eye on all affected vehicles will be replaced.
