BMW Recalls E39 E53 models
February 13, 2019
BMW Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of BMW E39 and E53 models.
The safety recall involves the Takata driver front airbag with a PSDI-4 inflator containing non-desiccated ammonium nitrate and that were not covered by the worldwide safety recalls released in 2015 and 2017. According to Takata, a possible degradation of the propellant tablets and wafers could lead to an over-aggressive combustion in the event the airbag is activated which may cause the inflator body to rupture. An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior at high speed, which could cause fatal injuries.
This recall affects 1558 vehicles in Ireland.
