BMW recalls various models

BMW Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain models of the following vehicles:
- BMW 3 Series Sedan, Touring, Coupe, Convertible and M3
Model E46/4, E46/3, E46/2 and E46/C with all types of steering wheel
Production period July 1999 to December 2001
- BMW 5 Series Sedan, Touring and M5
Model E39 with sports steering wheel or M sports steering wheel
Production period September 2000 to February 2002
- BMW X5
Model E53 with sports steering wheel or M sports steering wheel
Production period April 2000 to January 2003
The recall is being carried out due to a potential problem with the front driver’s side airbag. The driver’s side airbag could deploy abnormally in a crash which could possibly lead to injury.
There are 4,978 affected vehicles in Ireland.
What to do:
BMW Ireland will be writing directly to those owners involved in the recall to arrange to have their vehicles fitted with a new airbag inflator. The letter will advise you to contact your nearest BMW dealer who will arrange to do the refit free of charge. You can also contact BMW Ireland directly on 1890 719 421.
