BMW recalls X1
April 12, 2017
BMW Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain models of the X1 (Model F48) produced between June 2016 to March 2017.
The safety recall involves the instrument panel. Due to a fault in the supplier’s production process, on particular instrument panels the required horizontal and vertical opening lines of the passenger front airbag cover haven’t been milled. These millings serve as predetermined breaking point on the instrument panel in case the passenger front airbag is triggered, enabling the airbag to deploy according to specification.
In case the passenger front airbag is triggered in the event of a crash, the passenger side front airbag might not deploy properly due to the missing milling. This could increase the risk of injury to the front passenger.
There are 161 affected vehicles on the Irish market.
What to do:
BMW Ireland will be writing directly to those owners involved in the recall to arrange to have their vehicles fitted with a new airbag inflator. The letter will advise you to contact your nearest BMW dealer who will arrange to do the refit free of charge. You can also contact BMW Ireland directly on 1890 719 421.
