Avensis (1.6 & 1.8 litre engine) Prius and Corolla
On certain models which are equipped with Electric Motor Assisted Power Steering (EMPS), there could be a loss of steering ability.
There are 32,650 Avensis, 994 Prius and 49 Corolla cars affected in Ireland by this issue.
The manufacturing periods for these models are:
Avensis – August 2002 to October 2008
Prius – June 2003 to March 2009
Corolla – July 2001 to March 2004
Prius
The recall also affects certain models of Prius vehicles due to the possibility of failure in an electric water pump causing the hybrid system to stop while the vehicle is being driven, which may increase the risk of an accident.
There are 742 Prius vehicles affected in Ireland, with a manufacturing period from July 2003 to March 2009.
What to do:
Letters will be sent by Toyota Ireland to customers informing them of both recalls. The letter will advise you to contact your nearest Toyota dealer who will arrange to do the required check and repair free of charge.
