Volkswagen Group Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain Volkswagen Beetle, Scirocco, Jetta, Golf, Passat and Sharan models
June 11, 2018
Volkswagen Group Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain Volkswagen Beetle, Scirocco, Jetta, Golf, Passat and Sharan models produced between March and July 2011.
Volkswagen AG has established that on vehicles with diesel engines and start-stop system of a limited production period the starter motor may be permanently activated because the return spring in the solenoid switch is crooked or broken. As a result, the component can overheat and can cause thermal damage. The starter motor has to be checked and an affected solenoid switch replaced.
This affects 2720 cars in Ireland.
What to do:
Volkswagen Ireland will be writing directly to relevant owners to arrange to have their vehicles checked. The letter will advise owners to contact their nearest authorized Volkswagen Service Centre, which will carry out the check, and if needed, any rectification free of charge.
