Westward Scania recalls certain R-Serie and S-Serie lorries
April 22, 2021
Westward Scania is carrying out a voluntary recall of R-Serie and S-Serie.
The affected vehicles were produced between 2019 to 2020.
A safety issue has been identified with the affected vehicles where a fused wiring harness incorrectly installed in the vehicles could lead to chafing on a sharp edge. This may lead to a number of serious faults in the vehicle. The brake system can go in to pneumatic mode with no EBS/ABS functionality but full brake power will be available. The vehicle’s outer lighting could fail. It would no longer be possible to switch the engine off. A short circuit with a heating effect could cause fire, even once the vehicle’s engine has been switched off. The factory notes that as it is a fused cable, the risk of fire should be minimal or none.
There are approximately 171 affected vehicles in the Republic of Ireland.
What to do:
Westward Scania will directly contact all affected customers by post advising them to make an appointment with their local Authorised Repairer where any necessary repairs/replacements of parts will be carried out.
